Agriculture and Technology in Guyana.
Recently i was discussing with a gentleman about business ventures. I have this particular interest in agriculture. i was born and raised in mahaicony and i guess that explains why i like agriculture. I would try to explain this in as simple terms as possible. Later i will try to develop an economic model for it. Agriculture = Production. Factors of Production: 1. Land (includes natural resources such as water) 2. Labour (work force, skilled, semi-skilled, unskilled) 3. Capital (financial resources) 4. Entrepreneurship (ME) Guyana is blessed with all these factors of production, but yet we complain about being unable to produce enough foods. In fact the complain is now Q. "Why are we importing foods that we can produce?". the answer is simple. A. Because it is cheaper to import it. Heck, it probably is cheaper to import sugar. Soon it would be cheaper to import rice! Why is our cost of production so high? In guyana, we produce agricultural products. we till the soil. We know that we have all the factors of production. But in production analysis we have to take into consideration: Cost analysis. If we take any single agricultural product we will find that 90% of the cost to produce a single unit of that product is Variable. Variable means that the cost increases or decreases with the level of output. for example: Rice: all costs are variable except rent. ploughing based on number of acres. chipping dragging sowing seeds labour Poultry: all costs are variable baby chicks feeds labour In the early 1900's one scientist predicted that our world would starve because our production is not enough to supply the growing population. what he didn't take into consideration was: TECHNOLOGY. Technology is probably the single most important input into any process, whether it is agriculture, tourism, manufacturing, retail. whatever the process is technology is vital. It is indeed sad that to this day guyana is yet to improve their technology in the agricultural sector. In economics the principle of Production Possibility Frontier (PPF) implies that with technology there is a shift the PPF. I find it funny that they dont have Technology as a factor of production. I move a motion that TECHNOLOGY BE CONSIDERED A FACTOR OF PRODUCTION - separate from capital. How technology affects our production and market structure. in economics we learn of market structure: Perfect competition--------monopolistic competition-------------------oligopoly-------------monopoly. Best---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------worst. one of governments role is to strive for the perfectly competitive market. Globalization has made the world into an international market!! this means that i can produce my tomatoes and sell them to Holland! similarly Holland may produce tomatoes cheaper and cost to import to guyana is less that guyana's cost to produce. therefore as a business man i would be tempted to import that from Holland. What do we know 1. Guyana can produce. 2. The world is a global market. 3. Production moves with technology and by extension affects cost of production. 4. Guyana lacks technology and advancement in this area. Aftermath and example: 1. one acre of land can produce 15 bags of paddy when cultivated by non-mechanized equipment. 2. one acre of land can produce 40 bags of paddy when cultivated by mechanized equipment and FERTILIZERS are added. Fertilizer and Mechanized equipments are technology. 3. WE IMPORT FERTILIZER!!! 4. WE IMPORT FUEL to run the mechanized equipment!!! We see that two of the most important technologies to boost our production is imported. Fundamentally this is a problem. We buy inputs on a global market, we convert those inputs and even though we have the other factors of production we are forced to sell at high prices to cover our high cost of inputs. Solution: Innovative thinking. Here is a classical example of how we can improve our production by using innovative thinking. In farming poultry we know that 2 lbs of feed would give you 1lb of weight from broilers. personally, i know from drinking a few shots of banko wine i get hungry. therefore we see that alcohol makes digestion occurs faster. i am not sure whether it makes metabolism occurs faster but what i do know is that chickens would eat all day. therefore if you speed up their digestion then we can say that they get hungry faster, they eat more and get more weight faster. experimenting leads to better results. i would like to see more people and business invest into technology to boost production and reduce cost of production thereby making our firms more competitive on a global market and allowing our people to eat at cheaper prices! i hope you understand what i am getting at.

Miss Guyana Universe
June 28, 2009 time: 10:30 pm
hi peeps,
here I am after returning from the miss guyana universe swim suit contest which was held at the catalane house. really, the end result for me is that it was an excellent experience.
first of all, they were late in starting the contest. I know there is this myth about guyanese.. well its not exactly a myth but more of a reality that we are always late. Personally, I am always late but only maybe by a few minutes. This show started ridiculously late. The entire audience sat there, and waited and waited and waited for probably 3 of the longest hours of their lives. I mean, for groups of people there, fun was experienced. Me, I sat there and absorbed every moment of it. I had two gunniess and went to the bath twice during that 3 hrs. You know what the worst part was, Mr. Labumba ended up blaming something else for the lateness. That in it self was an excuse. Honestly, if no standard is set how can you compete internationally? This single encounter of Mr. Labumba shows the incompetence of the organizing committee. If this committee is a failure then definitely the success of the girl for this year miss universe pageant will be hindered. All these girls were extremely beautiful, I tell ya, beautiful...I wish I could marry all of them.
Marry all of them; hmm...I wonder if that is also the case with the miss universe judges. Well, for one thing...physical beauty is going to be there for all the different delegates of the different countries. There is a distinct difference between a Chinese girl, an Indian girl, a latin, a white and an African girl. Several nations all over the world put forward girls that falls into one of this ethnicity. therefore, it comes down to the brains and the way in which this physical beauty is portrait. I heard the girls talk on ncn's guyana today show which sparked this definite interest into the pageant. honestly, I was never interested before. all of the girl failed in talking to the reporter. either the gesticulation was too much, or the construction of the sentence was bad, or some other part of the speech was not right. this is NOT a stab at the girls. I am sure that all of you are very intelligent. however, you need more practice in speaking.
I am a man that always moves forward. ok, so today we have these girls going up for the chance to represent guyana at the miss universe pageant. here we have a downfall in one of the aspects of the individual that makes her a complete and perfect human being...probably the most important part. so, what do we do? miss guyana talented teen is certainly a step towards getting this err remedied. however, its an incomplete plan. in any pageant there is competition and almost all these contestants use gifts that they were born with. this rare physical bodies of these girls which is accompanied by a brain that has the capacity to absorb and adjust needs to be improved. personally, peer groups and schools should focus on this. and the people coordinating these must know what their functions are and what the function of the pageant is about. it is not about the clothes, its about the girls making the clothes look good and developing the girls ability to speak well.
the platforms: I can't remember all the platforms but some were just obvious. HIV/AIDS-AWARNESS IS THE FIRST STEP....this statement is true but fuck, I think we are pass the stage of fucking awareness...every individual who is above the age of 12 knows what aids is. so, this is not going to work. DEFORESTATION...I think the person doing this will win cause barrat will push for this girl to tell the world about his forest's importance. if the girl wins miss universe (which wont happen) barrat's forest is sold! lol. she wont win cause its just like we are trying to put the forests of guyana on ebay!...lol. PRODUCE PRODUCTS LOCALLY-wont work...why should we make locally what we can import from overseas and it will cost cheaper?! sure, the money will stay in the country if we make locally but c'mon I do business, I buy from overseas is cheaper...thats where I take my goods. your most important point here will be to show the circulation of money (cash) and reference to the GDP. hmm, thats all I can remember.
if its one thing about all the girls is that they are all selfless. I say this because of the fact I got a pic with almost all of them...check the photos section. the thing is, if you cant control this selflessness you might end up finding yourself into much problems. it becomes a lackadacical attitude which is present in every Caribbean nation. there was one girl who I admired alot because of her attitude...she was great, would always make a great model for camera BUT she has to improve her walking...it was a bit too fast. the attitude part must be there to an extent...you must tell your self that you are better than all the others. then u start to look for their downfalls, and you win them by not making the same mistakes. maybe you will make different mistakes but you have a personal observer who is unbiased towards you and you will make only minimal and insignificant errors.
and one of the people there, judges or organizers, has gotta be cynical. dont you learn anything from that singing show on tv?!
ok, all for now.
good luck to the girls and hope you have a great time!
and I still wanna marry all of em! whoa!
Edit:
hiv/aids platform, reduce the spread of aids by encouraging masturbation and selling dildoos and fleshlight. that should help...lol.
i was thinking right. for hiv/aids is it that the people who are not hiv possitive the ones who do not go to get the test...like they know they got it and so they wont get tested. then hiv positive people live in denial and its only to the detriment of the other innocent people. so, get into the heads of those that live in denial by explaining their phyc.
crap, i had something else to add here but i dont remember now...ok, check for another update soon
edit:
i just remembered what the other part is that i wanted to put in. have you ever seen the movie "The girl is the cafe"? well, its a wonderful movie and i think if you wanna save the world, its one movie you should look at.

Oracle on Vista
Oracle on Windows Vista
I downloaded Oracle 10g over 5 months ago and could not install it for the simple reason that their was an error on the operating system compatibility. Apparently, Oralce and Vista don't work well together.
